Aero Anesthesia

An anesthetist will call you the evening before the procedure to discuss your medical history and options of the type of anesthesia you will be receiving, as well as answer any questions you may have. The anesthetist will also call you the evening after your procedure to see how you are recovering. Please let us know the best contact phone numbers to reach you before and after your procedure.

We will start an I.V. to administer medications to relax you and make you comfortable during the procedure. We will monitor your heart rate /rhythm, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, breathing and temperature during the procedure. Your anesthetist will constantly monitor you during the anesthetic. You should be ready for discharge within 30 to 60 minutes after your procedure. If you are prone to nausea, let your anesthetist know so that we can take further precautions to decrease that possibility. We maintain ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification, and maintain all the recommended medications and equipment to deal with emergency situations.

To receive anesthesia it is very important for your safety to adhere to the following instructions:

After the procedure, you will need a responsible adult to take you home. After the surgery, you may take pain medication as directed by your dentist or surgeon. Please have these prescription medications filled and available before your surgery. Although you will be awake and alert enough to leave the facility after your procedure, the anesthesia medications may stay in your system for up to 24 hours. Many patients take a nap when they arrive home, and may not feel like their normal selves until the next day. Please arrange for someone to care for your children/family on the day of your procedure. You are not to drive a car, drink alcohol or make any important decisions for 24 hours after the anesthetic. You can eat and drink when you arrive home after the procedure. We recommend that you begin with light, bland food and drink, and progress your diet as tolerated.
